Friends of Torrance Animals is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization (Federal EIN: 91-2146544) that encourages effective animal control, responsible pet ownership, and humane treatment of animals in our community, through education.

We are NOT an adoption agency or animal placement agency. We do not rescue or find homes for animals.

Since 2003, the Friends of Torrance Animals Adopt-A-Classroom program has provided humane education materials for local classrooms, at no charge to the teacher, student, or school. For the 2014-2015 school year, more than 2,500 students in more than 90 classrooms are participating.

In addition, we support our city-based animal control program through donations of supplies and equipment.

For animal control service, including information on dog/cat licensing, call:

City of Torrance Animal Control office, (310) 618-3850. After office hours, you can leave a message; or, for emergencies, you can be transferred to the Police Dispatch Center. Call 9-1-1 when there is a threat to human life.

For more information, or information on dog/cat licensing, go to Animal Control

The City of Torrance animal control office is located at 2200 Jefferson Street. It's in Wilson Park, near the tennis courts and skate park. This is an office, not a shelter. The City of Torrance does not have an animal shelter; animal sheltering services are provided by contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control. The closest LA County shelter is located in Carson. If you are looking for a lost animal, you must go in person to the LA County/Carson shelter, located at 216 W. Victoria Street in Carson (two blocks east of Figueroa & 190th).

Donations (checks payable to Friends of Torrance Animals) are tax deductible as allowed by law. Federal EIN: 91-2146544. We depend on donations to fund our Adopt-A-Classroom program and provide support to our city-based animal control program.
